The market segment of Chinese visitors is thought to hold great potential for NhaTrang City in the south-central Khanh Hoa Province and the city should target mid-end to high-end Chinese tourists in the time ahead, according to a representative of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Tourism Association.
The proposal was made at a recent meeting between Khanh Hoa leaders, the provincial department of tourism, and travel companies.
According to the Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, the number of tourists to the city has increased at an alarming rate, overloading services and accommodations. The emergence of cheap tours has also affected the prestige of the tourism industry.
A representative from the association also emphasized the need to diversify the market segment of visitors, restoring the traditional markets such as Europe, Australia, and North America, and promoting tourism to markets in Northern Europe and Russia.
The representative said that high-end and mid-end Chinese tourists are more inclined to spend lavishly. The association also proposed setting up a tourism development fund for upcoming promotion activities and action plans.
According to a report from the provincial tourism department, the number of tourists to Nha Trang in January surged to 235,200, a rise of more than 144% compared to the same period last year with visitors primarily coming from China and Russia.
